3:00pm Chair Yoga: A Guided Meditation, 820 Gallery

A 30-minute guided meditation on desk work, intuitive design, and the cost of immersive interfaces. This performance will invite the audience to participate in a contemplative mode of engaging with digital and electronic media present in the gallery, thinking and feeling through the body, often neglected at the desktop.

4:00pm Fake it till you're Skeuomorphic: A conversation Between Anisha Baid and Jenson Leonard

Artists Jenson Leonard (Workflow) and Anisha Baid (MS User) will discuss their experiences of digital vernacular cultures and practices of appropriating white corporate imagery and aesthetics in their work. The artists will discuss their exhibitions, reflect on shared approaches to making in the digital world, as well as their hot takes on technology and contemporary culture.

MS User, a solo exhibition by Anisha Baid, reflects on digital culture, gender, and technocapitalism, as seen through her lens from the Global South. Across video, installation, and performance, Baid investigates themes of loneliness, isolation, and the feminization of labor, while simultaneously subverting these ideas through appropriation and comedy. In doing so, she uses humor as a tool against capitalism, and challenges the very power structures we exist within by providing new and irreverent perspectives around contemporary workplace culture.

Anisha Baid (b.1997 Kolkata, India) (she/her), is an artist and writer from Kolkata, India. Baid’s practice investigates the history of computer interfaces through the critical lenses of gender, labor, and evolving digital cultures, and involves an investigation of pervasive technologies through an examination of their design, diversity of use, and their relationship with ideas from science fiction. She is currently pursuing her MFA at Carnegie Mellon University.

MS User is curated by Tara Fay Coleman and presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
