Clare Ascani became passionate about singing at the age of 8 years old. Clare’s voice has a rich, smooth, and warm sound, with a style all her own that has developed over the last 5 decades of performing. Her voice and style has been described as a “Diane Schuur- Patty Austin-Diane Reeves-Carmen McRae kind of sound”. What sets Clare apart is that she brings songs not commonly done by other vocalists to her performances, and you find yourself listening more intently to hear what she will do next.

After completing a Bachelor of Music (Performance) degree at Trinity University, she began performing around San Antonio for a few years before she moved to Dallas and performed in many of the jazz and theater venues there, along with working on a multitude of commercial jingles. In 1988, she moved to New York City to continue working there until she met her husband-to-be and followed him to Pittsburgh in 2001. Clare was immediately struck by the depth and rich historical musical legacy of Pittsburgh, and was immediately and warmly welcomed by the Pittsburgh music community and asked to perform with many of its well-known local musicians.

Prior to moving to Baton Rouge for 3 years in 2012, Clare completed her first CD, “Until…” in 2013. Bob Karlovits’ wrote in his review, “Clare’s presentation of the songs is so well done, and in such a groove, that it shows what this area will lose in her departure.” When Pittsburgh lured her back in 2015, she literally swung right back into performing here, and is honored to be a part of the BNY Mellon Presents JazzLive roster for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Clare Ascani continues to perform at many venues and events around town, and loves calling Pittsburgh her home.
