Joseph Sheehan is a composer, pianist, and educator immersed in classical, jazz, and world musics. In his music Sheehan aims to share joy, depth, and beauty, connecting with artists and audiences of diverse musical communities.
As a pianist Sheehan performs throughout the Pittsburgh area, including the Three Rivers Arts Festival, the Pittsburgh International JazzLive Festival and the African Arts Festival in the Park. His ensemble Kinetic, which performs original songs inspired by travels to Ghana, released their debut CD in 2014 and toured NYC and Philly in the summer of 2015. He also frequently performs with Trio+, which plays an imaginative, non-step blend of hip-hop, pop, and R&B in collaboration with rappers and vocalists. Sheehan is the music director of Groove Aesthetic, an artist collective producing innovative genre-bending concerts; and was a long-running member of Cross Currents, which hosts a weekly fusion jazz jam session at Tana. He was a 2011 Jazzspace resident artist.
Sheehan is also active as a composer of concert music, and teaches Musicianship and composition at Duquesne University.
