Full Stack Ruby on Rails Developer – The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust

Position Summary:

We are looking for a creative and collaborative contributor to the development, support, and maintenance of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's customer websites and internal web applications. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust (the "Trust") is an arts presenter, facilities operator, and economic development organization located in downtown Pittsburgh. With an annual budget of $70 million, the Trust manages more than 10 performance/exhibition venues, facilitates over 2,000 performances annually and partners with other arts organizations to encourage more people to live, work, and play in the Cultural District. This position focuses on back-end development of the Trust’s customer-facing websites, ensuring optimal performance and customer experience. Working collaboratively with the Lead Web Developer, this position plays a crucial role in supporting the technology infrastructure of our CRM enterprise system across several District partners. The Developer is also responsible for website security, vulnerabilities, and website integrity. This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA. Remote (US only) candidates will be considered.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with designers, front-end developers, and business owners to identify business needs and implement Trust websites.
  • Oversee maintenance, bug fixes, and enhancement of four customer-facing applications (CulturalDistrict.org, Festival websites, ParkPgh.org, and internal tools) – responding to tickets for system bugs and requests for new features.
  • Provide maintenance and enhancement of integrations with our CRM software system through SOAP and RESTful APIs.
  • Determine appropriate architecture and other technical solutions, develop documentation, and make relevant recommendations to users.
  • Design, test, and implement new web-based technologies and larger IT projects.
  • Assist other developers in coding and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure that applications adhere to industry standards for performance and security.
  • Strategize and manage back-end issues for all major onsale efforts.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in web design, computer science, or digital media preferred. Bootcamp or similar schooling is also suitable. Certifications (AWS) are helpful.
  • 1-2 years’ experience with building and deploying code, eCommerce, and implementing feedback received from various stakeholders.
  • Experience with front-end technologies as well as issue and project tracking software preferred.
  • Experience with MVC web frameworks (preferably Ruby on Rails), JavaScript, jQuery, json, CSS, HTML, and related technologies. Additional experience with third party APIs, such as REST and SOAP services.
  • Preferred skills include distributed revision control systems, content management systems, AWS technologies, testing frameworks, relational database concepts, SQL programming, and agile software development methodologies.
  • Candidate should be collaborative, inquisitive and creative with a strong problem-solving orientation.
  • Excellent communication skills required with the ability to explain concepts in a technical and non-technical manner.
  • Attention to detail and documentation along with outstanding analytical and troubleshooting skills required.
