About This Performance

Creative Director Steve Hackman turns his attention to Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring, the orchestral suite that captures the essence of an ideal America - one of open fields and endless possibilities, and music of Bon Iver, the Grammy Award-winning American indie folk band. Together the two form a beautiful, contemplative and simply gorgeous evening of music, featuring guest vocalists and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

This concert also boasts a special guest - local Pittsburgh band Beauty Slap, whose special brand of brassy electronic dance music has put them on a meteoric rise. They will perform special arrangements of several of their songs with the Pittsburgh Symphony before finishing out the evening on a foot-stomping, hand-clapping note!

FUSE@PSO is a bold new approach to classical concerts. The brainchild of composer-conductor-producer Steve Hackman and presented by (and with) the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, this new series of early evening concerts fuses the old and the new, creating something that is at once a combination of both and wholly original.

FUSE@PSO begins at 5 p.m. with the concert starting at 6:30 p.m.
