Their responses were wide-ranging, with colleagues naming characters from opera and classic literature to super star vocalists, conceptual artists, and more.

Mitsuko Clarke-Verdery, Marketing Manager

A graphic with an image of the character Moana. Mitsuko says, 'After watching Moana many times with my daughter, I can see Moana's determination, fearlessness, and caring nature. She's a great role model to young girls on perseverance.'

Shelby Fink, Marketing and Engagement Manager

A graphic with an image of the artist Lorde. Shelby says 'Lorde's music is really able to hit at the underlying feelings that connect us all. She's fun and also, she's my dog's favorite artist so you know she's a good one.'

A graphic with the image of the artist Amy March. Shelby says, 'While many view her as a spoiled brat, I see a character that has always known what she wants and isn't afraid to let society deem her behavior as 'unacceptable'. While she does have...quirks...she loves her sisters, she loves herself, she's ambitious, and she's totally unafraid of discovering herself.'

Diane Goldsmith, Reception & Office Coordinator

A graphic with an image of Frances McDormand who plays the character Marge Gunderson. Zoe says 'She's a kind, intelligent, hard-working woman in a male dominated industry. She moves through the world with softness and empathy, without weakness.'

Karoline Smith, Accessibility Manager

A graphic with an image of the artist Christine Sun Kim. Karoline says, 'As a deaf artist, she doesn't just say 'Sound isn't for me.' She asks, 'Who owns sound?' 'Who controls access to it?' 'Who defines it?'

A graphic with a black and white photo of the character Leonore. Karoline says, 'Leonore disguises herself as a man to infiltrate a corrupt prison system and save her husband. She outsmarts authority using planning and patience. She studies the structure and moves strategically inside it.'
