Just in time for the Oscars, learn the inside story of how sound truly makes a film.

English

Directed by veteran Hollywood sound editor Midge Costin, this film reveals the hidden power of sound in cinema, introduces us to the unsung heroes who create it, and features insights from legendary directors with whom they collaborate. Featuring insights and stories of iconic directors such as George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, David Lynch, Barbra Streisand, Ang Lee, Sofia Coppola, and Ryan Coogler, the film works with sound design pioneers including Walter Murch, Ben Burtt and Gary Rydstrom and the many women and men who followed in their footsteps.

“Though she’s a first-time Director, Costin has put together a film that’s a savvy cinematic education as well as pure fun. If you care about the movies, don’t even think of staying away.”
— Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
