Exhibited for the first time in Pittsburgh, Among Women: Contemporary Art from Serbia presents the work of eleven female artists who are deeply connected to Belgrade, Serbia. HEKLER Assembly is a transnational space for art and cultural workers to share, discuss, and collectively imagine equitable futures nurturing the principles of self-organizing, community care, political education, and healing as commons. As a continuation of this collaborative and collective practice, HEKLER members Nataša Prljević and Farideh Sakhaeifar will be in conversation with artists from Among Women to host two online events. Amplifying the role of artists in social change, we will unfold the power relations within, with, and around body, institution, and the State. When do we feel like a threat and what threatens us - how do we claim agency within disrupting the status quo in the heteropatriarchal capitalist system that continues to stigmatize freedom?

HEKLER is an artist-run platform and transnational community of artists, cultural workers, and activists that fosters the examination of hospitality and conflict through collective and collaborative work, open education, residencies, and archiving. They welcome donations towards HEKLER’s ongoing free program Infrastructures of Care through the GoFundMe campaign.

This program is free and open to the public. To register, please click here.
