"When I get an inspiration for an image it happens suddenly. It will emerge either from a conversation, a word, or music. I see the beginning of the work, but I don’t know what it will look like in the end, or what it will to take to get there. Art is never finished for me; I chose to end it right as you see it. I discover that each time I step back from my easel the image reveals more of itself. At different phases the painting begins to show its true purpose and it takes me to a place I could have never imagined. It’s as though I’m having a conversation with a lifelong friend." — Douglas J.
