"Ed Piskor is a singular talent and he is unleashing the same passion, craft and attention to detail that fuels his award-winning Hip Hop Family Tree on decades' worth of X-Men stories." - Axel Alonso, Editor-in-Chief, Marvel
Tony Norman interviews comic illustrator Ed Piskor about X-Men: Grand Design, a Marvel project that distills more than 8,000 pages of comics — from the 1963 debut of the team all the way through departure of writer Chris Claremont in 1991 — into six 40-page issues to be published over three years.
The interview will also cover Piskor's Eisner Award-winning and New York Times best-selling Hip Hop Family Tree as well as his development as an artist, which Norman has followed and covered for the past two decades.
Ed Piskor grew up in the Mon Valley area of Pittsburgh and has been cartooning professionally since 2005. He is an award-winning illustrator and New York Times best-seller.
Tony Norman is an award-winning Columnist, Associate Editor, and Book Review Editor at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He began his career at the PG in 1988 as a clerk before rising to the pop music / pop culture beat a year later. In 1996, Norman became a general interest columnist who specializes in writing about race, culture and politics. In 1999, he was appointed to the PG's editorial board. In 2002, he became an adjunct professor of journalism at Chatham University where he continues to teach. In 2005, he won a Knight-Wallace Fellowship and spent a year at the University of Michigan. In 2012, he took on added duties as the PG's book review page editor.
A production of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and The Humanities Center at Carnegie Mellon University.
