Interactive Ofrenda Experience

October 24 - November 2
Kara Family Lobby at the Greer Cabaret

Participate in our interactive ofrenda, where attendees can contribute personal mementos and flowers to the altar. Learn about the significance of this beautiful tradition and create a space for reflection and remembrance.

Día de los Muertos ofrendas, or altars, are vibrant displays created to honor and remember deceased loved ones. Traditionally set up in homes or public spaces, they include photos, personal items, candles, marigolds (cempasúchil), and offerings like food and drink, such as pan de muerto and sugar skulls. Each element holds symbolic meaning, inviting the spirits to return for a night to celebrate with the living, guided by light, scent, and memories. Ofrendas are a central part of Día de los Muertos, blending indigenous and Catholic traditions in a colorful celebration of life and death.

Honor a loved one by adding to the ofrenda. You can leave a photo, a flower, or a written memory. Each contribution helps keep their spirit alive in our celebration of life and remembrance.

This event is part of our Gallery Crawl on October 25. Join us for an evening of exhibitions and more!

Marcario Film Screening

October 29 | 5:30pm & 7:30pm
October 30 | 5:30pm
October 31 | 5:30pm
Harris Theater

Aimed at an international audience—and indeed, it was the first Mexican film to be nominated for an Academy Award, as well as Mexico’s entry in the 1960 Cannes Film Festival—Macario takes the form of a macabre fable about an impoverished peasant (Ignacio López Tarso) who dreams of having enough food to satisfy his constant hunger.

Macario’s life takes a dramatic turn when he encounters three mysterious figures representing Death (played by José Gálvez), the Devil (played by Enrique Lucero), and God (played by Pina Pellicer). They offer him a gift: a magical turkey that will grant him three wishes. In exchange, Macario must promise to give the bones of the turkey to Death. With his newfound ability to fulfill his desires, Macario embarks on a journey filled with moral dilemmas and consequences. He uses his wishes to satisfy his hunger and improve his social status but soon realizes that wealth and power do not bring him true happiness. As he grapples with the consequences of his choices, Macario learns profound lessons about greed, compassion, and the nature of human existence.
